ravellolab forum Internazionali Federculture, Centro Universitario Europeo per i Beni Culturali di Ravello and Formez are promoting the third edition of Ravello LAB – International Forum Third Edition, an annual meeting aiming at setting up a permanent forum of analysis, discussion and proposals on the relationship culture-development. Ravello LAB First Edition, entitled “Cultural Heritage Territories”, was held from 26th to 28th October 2006 in the marvellous setting of Villa Rufolo, a jewel of the Amalfitan Coast and seat of Centro Universitario Europeo per i Beni Culturali (a body created in 1983 by the Italian parliamentary delegation at the Council of Europe). The second edition, from 24th to 26th October 2007, entitled “Economy of culture in the Europe of 27” addressed European policies in the domain of culture, focusing mainly on two important aspects: Cultural industry for territorial growth and competitiveness and innovative policies and instruments to enhance the dissemination of cultural heritage. The result of this three days of debate, to whom more than 60 among experts, professors, administrators from all over Europe took part, has been summarized in the “Ravello LAB Recommendations” with the objective of providing some useful indications about the relationship culture-development to Authorities at different institutional levels. Ravello LAB aims at becoming a system-resource that, at an international level, collects and facilitates analysis, organises moments of synthesis, launches experimental projects of research, monitors and evaluates cases and experiences, with the objective of giving policy-makers appropriate ideas and solutions to be translated into real actions and policies that will benefit citizens and territories. Ravello LAB progressively wants to be recognised as an international initiative promoted by Civil Society in connection with European Institutions, Institutional Bodies and in partnership with several private subjects, in order to state a new approach towards development. This new prospective should be centred, first of all, on the essential support that culture can and must give to civil and economic growth and make it a lasting lever for development.
